Former Zambia international Clifford Mulenga has cast doubt on whether Harambee Stars striker Moses Shumah has what it takes to thrive in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL), despite the striker’s prolific goalscoring exploits over the past two seasons.
Shumah recently moved to AmaZulu from Zambian champions Power Dynamos after an outstanding campaign that saw him finish as the league’s top scorer and help the club win the title.
Reports from South Africa indicate that AmaZulu paid more than KSh14.5 million (over R2 million) to secure the striker’s services, representing a significant increase over the KSh4.4 million (R600,000) that Power Dynamos reportedly spent to sign him from Kakamega Homeboyz just a year ago.
The 23-year-old heads to Durban on the back of an impressive season in which he scored 21 league goals to claim the Golden Boot, before finishing the campaign with 23 goals across all competitions.
Despite those numbers, Mulenga believes Shumah still has plenty to prove.
“To be honest, I only saw him score goals. How good is he? I think he is average,” Mulenga told KickOff.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic and Jomo Cosmos winger questioned the Kenyan striker’s overall technical ability, suggesting the step up to the PSL could expose weaknesses in his game.
