Former Kariobangi Sharks defender opens up on decision to retire at 33

The announcement was made via the club’s official social media platforms, where Naivas expressed their best wishes for the former National Super League (NSL) stalwart

Naivas FC defender Nixon Omondi has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a career spanning nearly 12 years.

The announcement was made via the club’s official social media platforms, where Naivas expressed their best wishes for the former National Super League (NSL) stalwart.

Nixon Omondi has left Naivas FC to pursue coaching. We wish you well, Dimo,” the club posted, acknowledging the player’s decision to shift focus to his long-term dream of mentoring the next generation.

Omondi’s retirement comes as a surprise to many fans, given that he remained actively involved with the retailers in the NSL, featuring prominently in their most recent outing against Kibera Black Stars on 24 January.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the former Sofapaka left-back explained that the decision was a carefully considered step toward life after football.

“Yes, it’s true. I have called it a day from the pitch,” Omondi stated. “I felt it was time to move on from playing and turn my undivided attention to coaching, which has always been my passion.

I also wanted to plan for life after my playing career. It has been worth every moment, and I have enjoyed every bit of it, but there comes a time to think ahead, and that is why I made this decision.”
